Ashraya Charitable Society is registered under the Travancore Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act XII of 1955 and has been functioning as a Voluntary Development Support Organisation since its inception in 1994 with clear vision, mission and a set of organizational goals / objectives. Ashraya was started on 7th April 1994 and later it was registered as a Charitable Society with No. Q 537/96 under the Charitable Societies Act. The activities Ashraya and its sister concerns are led by a 125 member General Body, a 25 member Executive Committee and various Subordinate Committees in different centers The last twenty two years since its inception witnessed the humble growth of the institution. Ashraya now has seven rehabilitation units all over the state of Kerala. The major among those is Sanketham at Kalayapuram, Kottarakara. More than thousand people are being taken care of at different homes of Ashraya by a dedicated team led by Kalayapuram Jose, the Founder and General Secretary of Ashraya.
The organisation’s vision is ‘even the less fortunate brethren in the society leading a dignified life by meeting at least their basic means of sustenance.
To fulfil its goals, the organisation has been making a series of on-going interventions. The major activities consist of establishing and running homes for destitute/ old people / abandoned parents, differently abled, orphans, etc; Children’s homes; de-addiction centre, psycho social rehabilitation Centre, Palliative care unit , ambulance services and various other medical support; massive campaign on social evils , promotion of agriculture and allied activities; campaign and action programme on ‘Destitute Free Bharatham’; and provisions for charity and voluntary assistance to the needy. During the reporting period almost all of these programmes were taken up.
